Article 80 Review Process

Why is review required?

Planned Development Area (PDA) Review, described further on pages 12-14 of A Citizen's Guide to Development Review and Institutional Master Plan Review, described further on pages 15-16 of the A Citizen's Guide to Development Review examine long-range plans that are required for developments in certain areas. Planned Development Areas (PDAs) are overlay districts that establish special zoning controls for large or complex projects.

These zoning controls are specified in the Development Plan for each PDA. Institutional Master Plans provide zoning controls for hospital and college projects. Projects described in PDA Development Plans and Institutional Master Plans also are subject to Large Project Review or Small Project Review, depending upon their size, location and use.

What are the criteria for review?

An Article 80D submission is required in accordance with Article 80 of the Boston Zoning Code. You can read more about these requirements in Article 80 and in A Citizen's Guide to Development Review.
