Boston Redevelopment Authority

Peter Meade was appointed Chief Economic Development Officer for the City of Boston by Mayor Thomas M. Menino in April 2011. Meade serves on the Mayor's cabinet, and as Chief Economic Development Officer, leads the Boston Redevelopment Authority, which for the past fifty years has been responsible for Boston's planning and economic development agenda. With an annual budget of more than $40 million and over 200 employees, the BRA focuses on planning Boston's neighborhoods, guiding large-scale projects through the zoning process, and job training and workforce development.

Meade launched his career in the 1970s, as a member of the administration of Mayor Kevin White, where he served the City of Boston in many roles, most notably as Public Safety Coordinator during federally mandated school desegregation. Meade has taken a very active role in Boston's business and civic communities, gaining a wide range of experience in the public and private sectors.

Prior to being named Chief Economic Development Officer of the City of Boston, Meade was the President and CEO of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate dedicated to educating, invigorating, encouraging, and inspiring the next generation of citizens and leaders to engage in the public square.

As Executive Vice President of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts for over a decade, Meade was part of the senior management team that turned the company around from a failing enterprise to a robust, responsible, and profitable business.

In the 1990s, Meade took over as President and CEO and led the turnaround of The New England Council. Under Meade's management and direction, the Council became the go to organization to promote New England's economic wellbeing and business interests in Washington, D.C.

A native of Boston, Meade resides in Boston's Back Bay with his wife, Rosanne Bacon Meade, and their two Irish Water Spaniels.
