Harvard University is currently planning its expansion in North Allston, an area of Boston across the
Charles River from Harvard Square and already home to a number of Harvard facilities, including the Business School. In order to proceed with the
review and approval process for new buildings, the University must first complete an Institutional Master Plan (IMP) to be approved by the BRA and
the Boston Zoning Commission. Mayor Menino has appointed the Harvard-Allston Task Force, a 16-member group composed of civic leaders and residents
of the Allston-Brighton neighborhood, to provide input and feedback to Harvard and the BRA on the IMP and building proposals.
This process will build on the now-complete North Allston strategic planning process, in which the City of Boston engaged the community and the
University to create a vision for the future of the neighborhood that included but was not limited to the property owned by Harvard. More
information on this process, as well as the resulting document, can be viewed at North Allston Strategic Planning Framework on the BRA web site.
