Credit Advisor Program

In addition to offering free tax preparation services, the Boston EITC Campaign is offering services that assist taxpayers in enhancing their economic stability and wealth building potential. Credit and debt problems pose a serious though surmountable obstacle to the path to building wealth. The Boston EITC Campaign is responding to this need with its Credit Advising Project.

Increasingly, many Americans are finding themselves in financial trouble. Unfortunately when financial difficulties hit, many find themselves facing missed payments and overextended credit. As a result, many low-to-moderate-income Americans find borrowing difficult and lenders charging excessive fees and finance charges. In order to reverse this trend it is vital for all to be informed about the importance of building and maintaining good credit.

The Credit Advising Project employs teams of professionally trained Credit Advisors at six of its sites. The Credit Advisor volunteers will provide taxpayers with basic one-on-one counseling. Credit reports will be accessed and the Credit Advisor will analyze the report with the taxpayer and develop a strategy for improving his or her credit score.

For those interested in volunteering, a half-day credit advising training will be held in early January. Volunteers will be asked to work 4 hours a week between late January and April 15th.

If you are interested in serving as a Credit Advisor, please register here and contact Jessica Cook for more information.
