Sustainable Chinatown to Bring Top-Notch Sustainable Business Expertise & Resources to Chinatown

Funded by The Barr Foundation, Sustainable Chinatown was granted $100,000 to bring top-notch sustainable business expertise and resources to the Chinatown business community. This is one of the first community-led efforts to “green” Boston businesses in a neighborhood that has traditionally been under-represented in “green’ efforts.

This exciting event will mark the beginning of the Sustainable Chinatown Project, a partnership between the Boston Redevelopment Authority, the City of Boston, the Asian American Civic Association, the utilities and Chinatown businesses.  The goals of the project are to help Chinatown businesses address the issues of rising energy, water, and solid waste management costs by providing practical and affordable solutions to help business owners save money and reduce environmental impacts, while building long term sustainable business expertise capacity in the community.

There will be workshops and information on energy efficiency upgrades, waste management and renewable energy. Mr. Jim Hunt, Chief of Environment and Energy of the City of Boston will be our keynote speaker. Galen Nelson, GreenTech Business Manager with the Boston Redevelopment Authority will also share some remarks.
