ONEin3 Spotlight: The Record Company Makes Professional Recording Accessible to Boston's Young Talent

Apr 10, 2014

Matthew-McArthur_The-Recording-Studio.JPGTwenty-four year old Roxbury resident Matt McArthur launched The Record Company in 2011 to make professional recording accessible to young talent.  The non-profit recording studio and after school program provides approximately 750 recording sessions per year for unsigned Boston artists and works with about 350 youth through after school recording programs and field trips.

Originally from Tucson, Arizona, Matt studied Music Production and Engineering at Berklee School of Music and, upon graduating, found that he could not bear to part from Boston.  Settling in Roxbury, Matt now uses his talents to prepare young people for sustainable careers in music.“I want to see a community of informed teens, college students and young adults, with realistic expectations about a career in the music industry,” says Matt.  “This season Boston has shown us the most talented, driven kids we’ve ever worked with.”

Currently, Matt is preparing for a Record Company showcase with partner, Teen Empowerment, while organizing a Record Company Pop Up in Los Angeles. The Record Company Pop Up will offer abbreviated versions of the Boston programs for two weeks leading up to an audio industry convention.

Matt’s best advice is to young musicians in Boston is to love the process not the product. “If thinking about the challenge makes you excited and motivated, than maybe a career in the music industry is right for you.” To learn more about The Record Company, connect with them on Twitter, Facebook and TheRecordCo.org.The-Record-Co-2.JPG
