South Boston Waterfront Sustainable Transportation Plan Begins Public Process in May

Apr 11, 2014

The Boston Transportation Department, the Boston Public Works Department, Boston Convention Center, Massport, MassDOT, A Better City, and the BRA are collaborating develop a sustainable transportation plan for the South Boston Waterfront neighborhood.

The South Boston Waterfront has been rapidly transforming over the last several years due to both public infrastructure improvements and significant private investment. As of late 2013, over 14.5 million square feet of development was either under construction or approved in the neighborhood. The South Boston Waterfront Sustainable Transportation Plan will aim to mitigate the impacts of new and planned development while making the most out of recent infrastructure additions, including the Silver Line and the expanded waterfront transportation system.

The goals of the final plan will be to:
  • improve access and mobility for all,
  • support economic growth and vitality,
  • reinforce sustainable policies and programs,
  • enhance the public realm,
  • contribute environmental and health benefits,
  • and invest smartly for the future.
A public process begins with a kickoff community meeting on May 7, 2014 at 6pm at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
