Monster.com credits Boston’s technology and health care industries for strong economic recovery
Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced today that the City of Boston has been ranked the third “hottest job market” in the country according to Monster.com, just behind Washington D.C. and San Francisco. The Massachusetts-based online job search company recognized the top ten markets identified as prime cities for job seekers. The top cities are credited with having strong healthcare and technology industries that have been able to maintain jobs through a difficult economic climate. “Boston is a city of great opportunities and the proud home of some of the nation’s best healthcare and technology companies,” said Mayor Menino. “This ranking is further acknowledgement of how well our City has fared in this economic downturn, and as we move out of this recession, we will continue to look for ways to promote job growth so that any Bostonian who needs work, can find it.” As part of his plan to promote job growth and the economy, Mayor Menino announced recently a $100 million “stimulus” to green city buildings and other assets, generating approximately 1,000 new jobs in construction and other sectors. The Mayor also pledged to ease the complex permitting process for small businesses by cutting red tape and reviewing permit requirements. Boston’s Innovation District has also become a hub for start-ups and clean-tech companies, with many new real estate developments breaking ground over the next year. “The Innovation District is quickly becoming a model for the country for how to rebuild the economy around new and growing industries,” said Mayor Menino. “I look forward to its growth as we continue to make the South Boston Waterfront a hub of creativity and innovation.” The top 10 “hottest” job markets, according to Monster.com, are: 1. Washington 2. San Francisco 3. Boston 4. Baltimore 5. Seattle 6. Minneapolis 7. Cleveland 8. Tampa 9. Dallas 10. Kansas City
