ONEin3 Spotlight: Chu Huang

Mar 27, 2015

Chu Huang is a native Bostonian who grew up in Chinatown. Today, she resides in the South End and works at the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC) as a Youth Program Associate. Her work involves helping young Asian Americans and Asian Immigrants, ages 13-18, to achieve postsecondary success through leadership programs. “I am dedicated to supporting Asian Americans and Asian immigrants, but I wanted to step out of my own niche. ONEin3 is an opportunity to have a bigger impact and is another way to create change,” Chu said in a recent interview.

By stepping out of her niche, and onto the Council, Chu hopes to connect native Bostonians with transplants. Regarding her goal, Chu says, “I am a native Bostonian and I have seen how Boston has changed throughout the years. I know the history and I’m aware of community issues. Boston is a very diverse city and offers a variety of talents. I would like to be a part of the vision in bridging these populations in Boston." She believes that through these interactions both sides can gain new perspectives on community issues.

Chu graduated from UMass Boston in 2011. In her free time she likes to create videos, dance and nurture creativity.  She is on the board of the Boston Asian American Film Festival, Asian American Women's Political Initiative, and is a member of the ASPIRE Scholarship Review Committee.
